(The National Institute for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Nutrition)
On November 30, 1972
the National Institute for Diabetes, Endocrinology
and Nutrition (INDEN) was founded to provide services for the country's
diabetics in greatest need. This hospital center, subsidized and supported by
the Foundation “Patronato de Lucha Contra la Diabetes” (Foundation
in the Battle Against Diabetes) and Grupo Abrisa, is dedicated to providing
healthcare services for diabetic and endocrinological patients who are
underserved or of scarce resources.
- It is one of only three health
centers in the world where all services are focused on diabetic and
endocrinological patients
- It is one of only two hospital
centers for diabetics in the world with in-patient services
- There are four areas within
the hospital: The Diabetes Center, The Metabolic Unit, The Diabetic Foot
Clinic, and the Permanent Camp for Diabetic Children
- Medical attention for up to
650 patients a day – about 160,000 patients per year
- Annual delivery of 200,000
insulin vials to our patients, and over 5 million oral hypoglycemic tablets
- All medical and surgical
specialties provided
- Ongoing Educational Program
for diabetic patients through daily educational talks, courses, and the
INDEN magazine
- Special program for diabetic
children with out-patient services and free medication
- 75 physicians, 52 nurses, and
83 employees in the technical and administrative areas, which provide
personalized attention to patients
- Nationally and
internationally renowned academic programs endorsed by Universidad
Iberoamericana, specializing in Diabetes, Nutrition,
and
Ophthalmology, with graduates from Central and South America
